“Hospitality was definitely for me!”
To celebrate International Women’s Day and Women in the Restaurant Industry, we have interviewed our very own female icon and Brand Director Jules.
“I started my career when I was only 13 years old washing sherry glasses and trifle dishes at a wedding venue every Saturday. My first week’s wages bought me my very first pair of winkle pickers – oh they were on trend and I had to have them! By the time I was 15 I was promoted to Front of House as a waitress, as well as mastering the bar too, I loved this role. It not only gave my early independence having my own money to do what I wanted, but also gave me confidence and a vision – Hospitality was definitely for me!
I went to University and studied hard, qualifying as a chef and also completing a BEC National in business studies. Once I graduated, I then went to work for Crest Hotels and Trust house Forte (those were the days!) and put my skills to the test. A few years later I went on to become a General Manager within Whitbread and a couple of years further on, then an Area Manager for Premier Inn. After 14 very happy and successful years, in Whitbread (achieving BDM of the Year, Operator of the year / ALMR Finalist) I decided to go to pastures new. My career move saw me enter into the world of Spirit Pub Company, where I held roles in Fayre & Square and then had the pleasure of leading the Flaming Grill brand and managing the conversion programme, which saw the estate successfully grow from 84 to 146 sites. This was the most intense time, but I enjoyed every minute, supporting people and watching businesses go from success to success.
I was approached to work for Las Iguanas four years ago as the Operations Director for the North and I have never regretted it. What a culture we have in this hugely successful brand. I have to say I have never dreaded going to work in my career as I have thoroughly enjoyed the positions I have held, but Las Iguanas is a brand that even now through these words I am trying to articulate how great it is; I am literally smiling and oozing with pride as I write these words, it’s all about the people!
Since joining I have also been promoted and now lead Las Iguanas as Brand Director and looking to further expand the 57 strong Latin American portfolio. CDG have certainly taken “women in hospitality” very serious indeed – there is a 50/50 split on the board of CDG.
Finally, it’s true what they say, “The only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven’t found it yet keep looking, don’t settle”…there’s a job like mine out there for everyone…we all deserve to be happy.”
Joining Las Iguanas will give you an equal opportunity to start your career journey- the Latin American Way. LOVE LATIN LIFEFind Your Job
